MOVIE TRAILER

Main Tera Hero Movie (2014) Review

Varun Dhawan is not as handsome a duck as Siddharth Malhotra is. Sid was perfect in Hasee Toh Phasee, while Sid took a challenging project, Varun decided to imitate Govinda and the 1980’s flick’s aura with insane comedy and cheesy cliche lines and acts. He carries off that image pretty decently. The movie is cheesy and has a non-monotonous narration by the director’s son himself. He is the centre of attraction of the movie which isn’t a bad thing when you have two ducks with lots of beauty wash but no acting sauce but then – He becomes an overdose by the end. The story has depth of a comic strip but it also has its neon-shaded fun. For those who want a light laugh, here’s your boy.

Sreenath Prasad aka Seenu (Vaun Dhawan) the most notorious boy in Ooty. He drops out from his college in Ooty in order to pursue education in a Bangalore college. Here he falls in love with Sunaina (Ileana Dโ€™ Cruz) while, Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri), of whom he is unaware till the first half is in love with him. Sunaina has to marry a police officer cum gangster. While Seenu is forced to marry Ayesha by her goon dad. Does he?

CAST & CREW

Main Tera Hero succeeds where films like R… Rajkumar, Chennai Express and Phata Poster Nikla Hero failed. Cool acting che. All the three actors are like a surgical instrument – They cut deep but alas, they just cut. Arunoday Singh is the perfect eccentric-gangster-extortionist villain. The comic timings are perfect. The facial expressions are superb. And lastly even though having an old formula, this film doesnโ€™t allow you to feel bored throughout the 128 minutes. Rajpal Yadav is one of my favourite comedians and here is a reason why – He knows how to make you laugh.

Direction is friendly. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The setups and cinematography are worth mentioning. The screenplay is dull but not bad. And maybe this is where most Bollywood movies get their cheese from.

MUSIC

The soundtrack is thankfully devoid of the usual mandatory sufi-pop track and instead chooses to go the masala way, which suits the energy film a lot more even though they are unrelated and just pop-ups. The music works its way into the characters lifestyle where Varun Dhawan gets all Govinda kind moves.

VERDICT

The film may be a Telugu remake, but the template is very Dhawan, with the usual mix of buffoons and goons and mistaken identities. Watch it to see the new faces in a new form.
