Somewhere writing movie reviews made me obligated to watch movies which I wouldn’t have generally. And after watching sixteen, I felt glad that I thankfully didn’t miss something like this. Extremely sweet and cute – words which feminine energy sparks for is needed to describe this movie.

REVIEW
Sixteen is about teenage days and while watching the movie, you will revive your own days- might not be as exciting as the stories told herein, but will tickle your funny bone and make you feel-good. So, is this a feel-good comedy? Drama? Love and lust saga? Or just another story? Well, it’s a mixture of all this. I didn’t find any comedy sadly, but there are scenes (your 12 year old is going to be highly expectative after watching this. Expecting flying pigs and beer from his teenage days).
STORY
There is a portrait painted out of young Indian lives through three girls and a boy – who hit unsettling emotional road blocks as they navigate a minefield created by constant peer and parental pressure. Sounds familiar? Of course! How can we forget the amazing and outstandingly heart touching Uddan? Just like bubblegum and the recent Gippi – it has traits of an international cinema due to its huge indifference to masala or magi.
PERFORMANCE
Director Raj Purohit ensures that he packs in quite a bit in those 2+ hours. He packed Izabelle Leite, Keith Sequeira, Wamiqa Gabbi, Mehak Manwani, Highphill Mathews, Zakir Hussain quite well. While I found Leite sensationally awkward, sequiera was profoundly serene. All other actors stand on par with each other’s performances. They exhibit teenage drools and features. The screenplay is dull and I hated the effects. The mommy’s and daddies have done commendable work though they get too artificial over time. Other than that, a more than average show put on by Purohit.
MUSIC
Too many songs. Too much not-required tracks. Chad gayi does well.
VERDICT
The stories are not destined to be entwined… but further on, that is what happens. Which is not what you expected and this is where the movie frails, apart from the poor promotion. The talks and the sleep outs- everything has a place in this movie. One of the characters in Sixteen advises another: “Stop watching romantic films. Watch good cinema.” How innocent and yes-I-have-known-a-person-who-says-this! There are such moments which make you chuckle lightly while you tread on soft teddy bear memories. RATING: 3/5
Not very sure how the old folks in our country are going to handle this movie 😛
